Bangladesh ligt aan de Golf van Bengalen
Geography
Bangladesh is approximately three times the size of the Netherlands and the landscape is characterized by its many rivers. No less than three large rivers traverse the country: the river Ganges (Padma), the river Brahmaputra (Jamuna) and the river Meghna. It is no surprise that rivers play an important role in the Bangladeshi society. Not only in a negative sense. Rivers are not only accountable for the floods, but also for a fertile layer of mud on the land, they provide water for irrigation and they enable transport.
A good 80% of the country is lowlands and deltas, giving Bangladesh its characteristic appearance. The remaining 20% is hills and mountainous areas, with the highest point, Mowdok Mual at 1000 metres, in the south-east.
